It seems like every time you watch the news, read a newspaper or access a news web site there is someone telling you what the Constitution of the United States says, particularly the First and Second Amendments. So, in light of the upcoming celebration of the birth of our great nation, we decided to provide you with the text of the First and Second Amendments to the Constitution.
Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Amendment II. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
There you have them, the first two amendments to the Constitution, which were ratified on December 15, 1791. So the next time someone tries to tell you what the First and Second Amendments mean, remember what they say...and what they do not say.
